Intrepid is a robot built by Mark Curry. His website is here.
Intrepid has a very elegant, compact design based on a remote control monster truck chassis. The amazing thing about this robot is its intelligence. Intrepid used a mini-ITX which ran MATLAB for analyzing data from several sonar and infrared sensors. Using that data, Intrepid constructed obstacle maps (an example can be viewed here) and preformed true path planning.
This robot was designed more for obstacle avoidance than what this competition called for. It was designed to be able to navigate through a dense forest without a problem.

Mark stated that he is going to retire this amazing robot. He will be building something with bigger wheels that is meant more for speed for next year's competition. We are looking forward to seeing it at Fort Mason!
